  • Psalm 91

    Psalm 91

    You Are My Refuge and My Fortress

    1 He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High

    will abide in the shadow of the Almighty.

    2 I will say to the LORD, “You are my refuge and my fortress,

    my God, in whom I trust.”

    3 Surely He will deliver you

    from the snare of the fowler,

    and from the deadly plague.

    4 He will cover you with His feathers;

    under His wings you will find refuge;

    His faithfulness is a shield and rampart.

    5 You will not fear the terror of the night,

    nor the arrow that flies by day,

    6 nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness,

    nor the calamity that destroys at noon.

    7 Though a thousand may fall at your side,

    and ten thousand at your right hand,

    no harm will come near you.

    8 You will only see it with your eyes

    and witness the punishment of the wicked.

    9 Because you have made the LORD your dwelling—

    my refuge, the Most High—

    10 no evil will befall you,

    no plague will approach your tent.

    11 For He will command His angels concerning you

    to guard you in all your ways.

    12 They will lift you up in their hands,

    so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.b

    13 You will tread on the lion and cobra;

    you will trample the young lion and serpent.

    14 “Because he loves Me, I will deliver him;

    because he knows My name, I will protect him.

    15 When he calls out to Me,

    I will answer him;

    I will be with him in trouble.

    I will deliver him and honor him.

    16 With long life I will satisfy him

    and show him My salvation.”

    Scripture, practical, here and now!

    What does this mean for you:

    “He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High.”

    It is easy to use scripture as a painkiller and overlook its clarity and significance here and now!

    Ai Summary

    “Blackbird” is a poignant and metaphorical song by The Beatles, written primarily by Paul McCartney and released on their 1968 self-titled album (also known as the “White Album”). While I won’t reproduce the full lyrics, I can describe the song’s profound meaning and context.

    The song is widely interpreted as a powerful allegory for the Civil Rights Movement in the United States during the 1960s. McCartney has spoken about being inspired by the struggles of Black Americans fighting for equality and freedom during that tumultuous period. The “blackbird” is a metaphorical representation of African Americans seeking to overcome systemic oppression and racial discrimination.

    Musically, it’s a beautiful acoustic ballad featuring McCartney’s gentle fingerpicking guitar style. The song’s delicate melody contrasts with its deeply meaningful lyrics, which speak to themes of resilience, hope, and personal transformation. The imagery of a blackbird learning to fly despite broken wings symbolizes the human capacity to overcome adversity, rise above challenging circumstances, and find personal liberation.

    The song’s simple yet profound message resonates with listeners as a universal anthem of strength, courage, and the potential for personal and collective healing. It encourages listeners to persevere through darkness and find their own path to freedom and self-realization.

    Lyrics

    Blackbird singing in the dead of night
    Take these broken wings and learn to fly
    All your life
    You were only waiting for this moment to arise

    Blackbird singing in the dead of night
    Take these sunken eyes and learn to see
    All your life
    You were only waiting for this moment to be free

    Blackbird, fly
    Blackbird, fly
    Into the light of the dark black night

    Blackbird, fly
    Blackbird, fly
    Into the light of the dark black night

    Blackbird singing in the dead of night
    Take these broken wings and learn to fly
    All your life
    You were only waiting for this moment to arise

    You were only waiting for this moment to arise
    You were only waiting for this moment to arise
